Trainer Profile
Jin Hyun Kwon
Jin Hyun Kwon has been the head trainer at Golden Hill Riding Academy (GHRA) since July, 2002, when it was first established inside the Los Angeles Equestrian Center in Burbank, California. He is one of the dozen trainers who call LAEC their home, and the only Asian trainer who has had a privilege to work in the famous equestrian facility, originally built to accommodate the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games, and the home of many prestigious shows in Southern California.
Jin has been riding horses for the past 30 years, specializing in English show jumping, and competing in many national and international equestrian shows including 3-day events and Grand Prix level shows. As most of his fellow riders in his native Korea have, Jin has been taught the disciplines of both dressage and jumping since he began riding at age 13. He won numerous awards in jumping and dressage shows held in South Korea, where he was born and raised, including the National Jumping Championship Tournament in 1981, and the Korean Equestrian Federation Chairman’s Cup Tournament in 1982. In 1986, after having represented his national team for 5 years, he was qualified to compete in the Seoul Olympic Games in 1988. Since early 80’s, he has participated in numerous international events, such as the 10th Korea-Japan Civilian Equestrian Tournament in 1989, for which he won the first prize. In 1988, he trained the athletes for Modern Pentathlon team, who would compete in the Olympic Games representing Korea. Right before he moved to the U.S.A in 2001, he was appointed to serve as one of the juries in the international competitions and events hosted by the Korean Equestrian Federation.
